4th of July

Hey All!

I hope you guys had a GREAT 4th of July! I know We did.

I made E, a dress that is patriotic themed but not "stars and stripes-4th of July" so She could wear it more than once ; ) I am crossing my fingers and hoping that it will still fit Her in December when We go back to Disney World. We shall see.

My girls are HUGE fans of Mickey Mouse. just love him, so I was tickled pink when I came across this 1954 print vintage Mickey mouse fabric. I.Had.To.Buy.It. Not knowing what for, but I couldn't pass it up!

Now these cupcakes were Swiss chocolate  cakewith cream cheese frosting (the Hub's fave) And the cupcake decor was something I was able to print online. E had so much fun taping these to the toothpicks, She tried to eat one!

White chocolate berry bark. So simple but oh so delicious!!
This was the table setting for 4th of July. We didn't have any visitors over, the Hubs worked that day, so I just grilled hamburgers inside, and cooked a bunch of vegetables. And the sweets. Oh the sweets, let me tell ya'!

For E's dress, I just used a basic gathered dress, but made my own pattern for the apron, and I was surprised how easily it came together. I think one of my favorite details is the 2 star cutouts on the apron front, which are cream. I sewed about 1/4 in. from the edge around the star with red thread to give some contrast and once it was washed the edges frayed so now it has a shabby chic look and makes them look even better.

We didn't do a whole lot, but spending time as Family is always so fulfilling, and enjoyable. I hope you and yours did as well. God bless.

The Domestic Church

Hey Guys!

This has been a very productive lent for myself. I gave up Facebook, and I seem to have found SO much more time for creativity and those home projects that desperately need to be done. I have been doing alot of reflecting and re-evaluating the way I do things (doing it better or more efficiently etc.)

I have COMPLETELY redone my living room. ( I Will do a post later on it once I'm done with all the nitty gritty details)

which seriously needed some TLC.In a word eyesore! Not really, but It was the room I have done the least with since being married. Being on the home decor kick overload mode,  I have being looking at alot of DIY projects, and then a thought struck me.

Instead of focusing on floral prints or whether this khaki matches that khaki (yeah)

I should focus more on the Religious year "seasons"

Don't misunderstand me, I do have religious icons, statues, crucifixes. after all, the family IS the "Domestic church".

For example:

Being's it's Palm Sunday I will shortly be pulling out my purple cloth (was a sheet) and covering all religious items in the house to give the home a somber and mournful tone. Believe me, the moment you walk in a room, you notice it- it helps my family and I to really feel the spirit of this holy week. Easter Sunday when the purple comes down, just adds to it for all of us, even the Hubs notices a difference.

I am SOOOO excited about the dining table centerpiece for Easter that I am in the process of putting together. Here is a picture of the inspiration diy showoff did:

Isn't it GAWGEOUS!?!?!
I will put "He is risen" on the hanging eggs instead of Happy Easter.
I just love that phrase, and what a great way to use it, don't you agree?

So I have been on the hunt to find more liturgical items for the home, to use for every different season. It is a fun and challenging project!

So my question to you all is, what is your approach and method to home decor and how do you incorporate the faith into your life??.

Vegetable-bean soup

I hope your Lent is going well, mine is for sure! Morning sickness is almost over, this pregnancy is going by so much faster than the last one.

I want to share this recipe with you guys, it's one of those great meals for Friday if you abstain from meat like we do. Here's the recipe:

Vegetable-Bean soup
Serves 4 ~Active time 25 min. ~ Total time 50 min
2 tbsp. EVOO (Extra virgin olive oil)
                                              2 medium carrots, diced small
                                              2 celery stalks diced small
1 medium yellow onion, diced small
                                              3 garlic cloves, minced
                                             1 tsp. dried thyme
                                             coarse salt and ground pepper
31 ounces cannellini beans, rinsed and drained
                                         28 ounces diced tomatoes
                                          4 cups vegetable broth
                                           1/4 cup chopped parsley
                                          grated parmesan, for serving

In a large pot, heat oil over medium-high. Add carrots, celery, and onion and cook until onion is translucent, about  6 minutes. Add garlic and thyme and season with salt and pepper; cook until fragrant, about 3 minutes. Add beans, tomatoes, broth, and parsley and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until vegetables are tender, 25 to 30 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Divide soup among 4 bowls and serve with parmesan cheese on top.
